About the Artist
Faith Kaminsky Cohen is an acrylic and plastic artist whose work is found around the globe.
She moved to Florida in early 2010, where she discovered the world of creating art outside of a computer. She began her new life as an artist as a result of her serendipitous discovery of the Zentangle® method of drawing, eventually becoming a Certified Zentangle Teacher in 2014. Her work was featured in the book "500 Tangled Artworks: A Showcase of Inspired Illustrated Designs," ed. Beckah Krahula, 2015.
With a firm grounding in the practice of meditative line drawing, Faith continued to broaden her artistic horizons through various seminars, classes, and voracious reading and experimentation, discovering along the way that abstract acrylic painting was her passion. She enrolled in the Boca Raton Art Museum's abstract painting program in 2017. In her first term, her painting "August Wind" debuted in the Boca Raton Museum Art show in the Fall of 2017. Her painting "Scattered, Covered, and Smothered" premiered at the Las Cruces, NM based In Effect Gallery Spring Fling show in 2018. Her Chinese Plastix line of sculptures will debut in November at the Florida Keys Council of the Arts fall member show at
The Gato Building in Key West.
As a long-time art collector, her influences include Alexander Calder, Paul Klee, Bernard Buffet, and Josh Agle (Shag). Her paintings strive to be a reflection of the "midcentury suburban" revolution. Aesthetically in tune with the sensitivities of earlier times, but using color and texture to add a modern sensibility. Her works attempt to convey meaning beyond the casual observation through juxtaposition and visual disruption.
Faith began her professional career in 1992 as an attorney in New York City, spending 17 years fighting for the rights of teachers and students in the New York City school system. In 1995, Faith became a self-taught computer graphic artist. As one of the earliest web designers and developers, she helped found the Digital Divas, a pioneering professional group for aspiring female internet professionals. In 2005, a crippling accident forced an abrupt change in her life.
A graduate of Cornell University (1989) and the New York University School Of Law, cum laude (1992), Faith is now retired from the practice of law. She lives in Parkland and Key West, Florida with her husband Jim Cohen and her son Harrison Blue Cohen.
